DIY Flower Girl Basket

The most adorable addition to any wedding celebration is definitely the flower girl and what better way to make her participation more fun than to create a beautifully decorated basket for her to carry down the aisle.

An alternative to the petal basket is a pomander, a fairy wand or a decorated basket. For today’s project, we will be arranging flowers right in the middle of the basket.

FLORAL SUPPLIES AND TOOLS NEEDED

STEP 1. PREPARE THE BASKET

Trim the floral foam the shape of the basket base. Next, cut the foam in half horizontally. The depth depends on how deep the basket is. Always check to estimate so that you don’t cut it too thinly.

Smear one side of the floral foam with a generous amount of hot glue.

Attach the foam firmly into the center of the basket. Push and hold in place making sure the foam is secured properly. Turn the basket upside down to test.

STEP 2. STEM THE SOLA WOOD FLOWERS

Learn how to stem wood flowers like a pro in this Tutorial. For our arrangement, we need both short and long stem flowers.

Apply hot glue to the tip of the bamboo stick

Gently push into the base of the flower. Make sure it is glued in place before you set aside.

Stem all the flowers needed.

STEP 3. ARRANGE THE FLOWERS

Cut the stem. This will determine the height of the arrangement. Adjust or trim further as needed.

Position the focal flower in the middle of the basket.

Work in circles turning the basket as you add more flowers. Make sure the arrangement is symmetrical and full.

STEP 4. ADD FILLERS AND GREENERY

If you are happy with the look and balance of the flowers, start adding greenery. This will add more depth to the arrangement.

Fill in the gaps in between the flowers making sure to cover the floral foam underneath.

Add your secondary fillers. We are using preserved Stoebe. The green colors of the accents complement the earth green colors of the flowers.

Voila! Your flower girl will have fun carrying this floral decorated basket down the aisle.
